The Wit and Wisdom of Mark Rippetoe

Strength training commands a certain mix of brutal honesty, humility, and humour. Funny and stupid shit happens in the process of getting strong, and there are certain intractable truths that do not go away for wishing. If strength training had a slightly more foulmouthed and proletariat Mark Twain it would be Mark Rippetoe. Here are a few of his choice insights.

    Ok, I knew Rippetoe was cool; what I did not know is that he is my freaking hero.

    “If you are so inflamed that you can’t train, and ibuprofen and fish oil help with inflammation, maybe you’d better take the fucking ibuprofen and fish oil.”

    He also has his sexist moments. Unfortunately it doesn’t stop me laughing when he says funny stuff. I hate myself for it sometimes. And yet I guffaw nonetheless. He speaks to my inner frat boy.
