Challenging myself physically and suprising myself with what I’m capable of is the one accomplishment and daily activity that has truly empowered me and made me feel good about myself. So it’s frustrating when other feminists mock physical activity and dismiss “all exercise” as “self-torture in pursuit of a fascistic beauty ideal.” (Exact quote from a blog comment, I s–t you not.) So, while not a runner anymore (stupid plantar fasciitis,) I’m putting this one on my to-read list.
