I think kettlebell training is an excellent way to build *certain aspects of strength*. I take issue with the claim that it is the "best" way to build "strength". I work out with kettlebells myself and enjoy it very much, although I look at my workouts more as HIIT style cardio sessions.

My belief is that it's hard to beat basic barbell training when it comes to augmenting absolute or limit strength, which is what I personally usually mean when I use the word "strength" all by itself. I think too many women don't properly give themselves a chance with the barbells because of the intimidation factor, and I would hate to see kettlebells become yet another way to avoid barbell training if a woman is genuinely interested in "strength".

Aside from that minor quibble, this is a great article. I hope it gets women training with kettlebell lifts and exercises, since they give an amazing workout and are fun and engaging. They're a great workout on their own (provided one is not looking for the most efficient way to increase limit strength), and they're also a great augment to other kinds of training. Also, for what most people are looking for (a way to look better at the beach and feel more energetic and alive), KBs are awesome.

Hi Krista!...You run an awesome web site...since MFW had its meltdown you're the go-to site...you probably don't remember me..we met once briefly (a long ten years and several lifetimes ago) in a gym in T.O. On MFW I was the loony "last of the hippy benchers" my handle was Lee and I used a signature:

Lee Embe
Founder and Sole Signing Officer
Church of the Orthoecstatic Hypotensive Squat Experience
(formerly The Church of Big Nurse and the Cosmic Squat)
All donations gratefully received.

I love that crazy Aussie guy you got..gives me inspiration whenever I start making excuses not to work out..so hey, I'm still travelling, still benching, still without what the straight world would call a real job...

And I have to tell you there's a karmic payoff experience (or is it a price? I dunno.)...I'm lying on a bed in the "Royale" a dump of an hotel in the rotting corrupt heart of Kinshasa...a few blocks away someone is shooting at someone and they're shooting back..how the hell can they see anything?...the streets are darker than this room....there's been no power for 4 days... no running water..It's 35 C...I have a battery operated fan on my chest..then at 3:00 a.m. without any prior warning the power suddenly comes on..lights flicker..the ceiling fan starts grinding away...("Mais M'sieu, l'aire n'a jamais marche.")... water (albeit gritty) spits out of the shower head ...the giant African roaches haul their District 9 bodies out of the shower drain...I roll over to gaze in wonder at my lap top flickering into life...and for some inexplicable reason it's openng on your web site and I'm reading Krista's rant about some kind of second birthday!
Dear sweet jeasus, what a bizarre nutty life this is!

Good luck on you Krista! Keep it going...you're doing a whole lot of good!
